BSS is a sterile irrigating solution that contains the active ingredients in the form of various salts, including sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate, and sodium citrate dihydrate. It is used as a balanced salt solution intended for irrigation, administered in a sterile form. Key inactive ingredients include sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid, which are used to adjust the pH, and water for injection. The solution is formulated to have a pH of approximately 7.5 and an osmolality of about 300 mOsm/Kg.
