What should I tell my care team before I take this medication?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
-Addison's disease or other adrenal gland problems
-Angina
-Bone problems
-Diabetes
-Dieting or on a weight loss program
-Fertility problems
-Heart disease
-Pituitary gland problems
-Take medications that treat or prevent blood clots
-An unusual or allergic reaction to liothyronine, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives
-Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
-Breast-feeding

-Certain medications to treat cancer

-Liquid nutrition products, such as Ensure
-Lithium

-Phenobarbital or other barbiturates
-Phenytoin
-Rifampin

-Steroid medications, such as prednisone or cortisone
-Sucralfate

What should I watch for while using this medication?
Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse. It may be some time before you see the benefit from this medication.
You may need blood work done while you are taking this medication.
Biotin (vitamin B7) may interfere with your thyroid function test. Stop taking supplements that contain biotin 2 days before your blood work.
What are the most serious risks of this medication?
This medicine is not to be used for weight loss. Large doses of this medicine can cause weight loss, but such doses can cause serious toxicity.
